In a reciprocal gesture, the Tamil Nadu government too had agreed to allocate five acres to the Kerala government for the pilgrims visiting Palani. This was revealed by Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, who took part in a special preparatory meet for the pilgrimage season in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. He also said 40 per cent of Iyappa devotees were from Tamil Nadu and appealed to Kerala to appoint a member representing Tamil Nadu in the Travancore Devasom Board for effective coordination and smooth facilitation.

Jayakumar also requested Kerala government to provide all possible basic amenities and hand over the land at the earliest to Tamil Nadu government. He also promised the fullest co-operation and support to Kerala in all areas for the benefit of the devotees from both the states.

Jayakumar said an exclusive information centre functioned at the headquarters of the HR&CE for the benefit of the devotees every year. He further said exclusive information centres will be established in addition to the present desks in other districts.
