Spadework on for Kamal’s political party
Actor Kamal Haasan on Tuesday confirmed that his political journey has began by declaring that he is in the preparatory stage of launching a political party, discussing the modalities with various scholars since the foundation must be strong for the party’s success.

However, he did not come out with the policy of his yet to be formed outfit and said the party’s manifesto, its policies and name would be decided after elaborate consultations. “The name of the child cannot be decided during pregnancy. First we have to see if the child is a male or a female,” he quipped. The actor said even for a cinema, he would prepare for six to seven months and added that politics is bigger thing. “But, the time has come for me to prove the reason for my birth,” Kamal Haasan asserted.
Strongly denying that he is an ‘anti-Hindu’, he said “I did not use the word Hindu terrorist. How will I use such a word which will offend the people in my family. I will lose the affection in my family if I make such remarks.” The word he used was ‘Hindu extremism,’ Kamal Haasan clarified and said the words ‘terrorism’ and ‘extremism’ are different.
When a journalist asked about his Brahmin identity, the actor said, “If I open my shirt, you will know I have no such identity. I have come out of it and accept me as I am. I will not say I am an atheist, which is a word coined by spiritual people. I am a rationalist.”
When asked if those following him would also be honest, he said, “Such people will be severely punished by him. We failed to punish such persons and so we find our society in such a bad state”. The actor said he could filter the wrong people from entering his party and said he had the experience of taking action on the wrong people in his film career itself.
“We are aware that allowing old baggage among us can be dangerous for us,” in an obvious assertion that he would not admit corrupt politicians from other parties.
He also said, “I will tour the state to understand my people again from the perspective, not that of an actor but of a citizen. We have to understand the people and its land. In Europe, people always used to wear footwear due to the climate. But, recently they have been afflicted with some maladies and are being asked to walk bare-foot to acquaint themselves with the soil. We are losing touch with the land. Gadgets are a means to the end and not the end itself. The end is the ascent of civilisation and human race”.
