Opposition parties and organisations had called November 8 as ‘Black Day’ and protests were staged throughout the country.Â
A set of people who had attended the second national convention on Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch at Madurai had gone to Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi after completing the event on Monday.Â
When they visited Dhanushkodi they decided to join the protest against demonetisation and wrapped black flag around the recently installed Ashoka Pillar at Arichalmunai and shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After some time when policemen came to know about the protest, they rushed to the spot and took the protesters under custody.Â
Similarly, protests against demonetisation were staged at various parts of southern districts, on Wednesday. Congress cadres staged protest at Kovilpatti by tying black flags and shouted slogans against demonetisation. Members of CPI staged protest at Thoothukudi and shouted slogans against demonetisation.
