No damage to crops in delta, claims Minister
There was no crop loss in the delta region due to monsoon so far, as the water has started draining out of the fields, said state Agriculture Minister R Duraikannu in Thanjavur on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in Kumbakonam after distributing assistance to those families, whose houses were damaged due to the recent rains, the Minister said as the rivers, canals, tanks and lakes were desilted in Thanjavur district, the rain water had drained out of the fields.Â
He further said he had visited Ammapettai, Tiruvaiyaru and Papanasam to inspect the inundation of paddy crop and the water has already started draining there.Â
Handlooms Minister OS Manian has been inspecting the affected areas in Sirkazhi taluk of Nagappattinam district and it is said that the water level in those areas is also receding.Â
The Minister added that the officials have been enumerating the number of houses damaged in the district and so far the assistance for 31 damaged houses in Kumbakonam taluk and 4 houses in Papanasam taluk has been distributed. The enumeration is on in other taluks as well, he added.
