Ordinance to turn TN more investor-friendly
At the CII Connect 2017 meet held on Monday, MC Sampath, Minister for Industries, Steel Control & Special Initiatives, said the TN government has enacted a law to provide an investor-friendly environment to enable potential investors to carry on business with ease. TN also promulgated an ordinance on October 28, for the same.

Speaking about IT Governance in the state, Sampath said the Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network (TNSWAN) has integrated all major departments in the state, to ease the services rendered by all the government departments. An official web portal was also created by the government and inaugurated by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Nov 2. “The Single window system portal provides online submission and approvals including those from DTCP, TANGEDCO, TNPCB, SIPCOT, PWD, Revenue and Labour Department etc,” said Sampath. This portal which would be handled by TN Guidance and Investment Promotion Bureau at the state level and District Industries Centre at the district level, will help potential investors ease into the process of starting their ventures, the Minister added. He also remarked that the state has a well-built IT infrastructure that acts as a foundation for latest technologies like ERP, cloud computing, distributed data sharing and resource sharing.
The Confederation of India Industry (CII) – Tamil Nadu jointly with the Government of Tamil Nadu launched the 16th Edition of CII Connect 2017 here. With the theme, ‘Intelligent Economy – Leveraging Technology for the New Era’ the conference was inaugurated by Sampath, Dr M Manikandan, Minister for IT, Government of TN and other leaders from the industry. Highlighting the need for developing domain specific tech parks in the state, P Ravichandran, Chairman – CII Tamil Nadu State Council submitted three key proposals to the TN Government as part of Connect 2017. In addition to this, a joint report by CII & KPMG was launched by Ministers.
Foxconn to invest Rs 300 cr for expansion in TN
Meanwhile, Taiwanese consumer electronic gadget contract manufacturer Foxconn is expected to invest Rs 300 crore in expansion of their operations here and the government has approved allotment of 49 acres land, said Sampath. He added that Foxconn has said it would invest around Rs 300 crore and provide jobs for around 5,000 people. According to Sampath, the Taiwanese company has assured employment for a total of 30,000 people over the next three years, which is equal to the number of people employed by the Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia at its factory near here before it closed down its operations.
