Floods: CM Edappadi Palaniswami for long-term solution
On his second day out taking stock of monsoon effect, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday assured that long term plans to prevent inundation are in the offing, while asserting that the precautionary measures by his government had minimised flooding, with 200 of 315 areas that were inundated had already been dewatered despite the heavy rains.

CM and his cabinet colleagues began the review from the block-clearing activities at the Link Canal in Kodungaiyur and travelled to several flood-ravaged spots, including Manali, Venus, Retteri, and Chitlapakkam. His flood-review tour culminated at Keelkattalai.
At Chitlappakkam, the residents aired their grievances to the CM stating that it had become an annual affair for them to vacate their houses for 2 months. They sought to know whether the government could do anything at all to fix it or not. As officials, who accompanied the CM tried to persuade those causing flutter, Palaniswami sought to know what the Revenue department and district administration have in stock for the people. He was told that the permanent solution plan was already in the offing and informed him that they were in the process of removing the encroachments from water bodies. They also sought cooperation from those squatting on
water-bodies and storm-drains.
“We have brought back all 22 subways in the City to use. While 81 camps are set up here in the City, 20 camps have been receiving people and as many as 2,166 persons were accommodated,” Palaniswami claimed. He added, “Until now, as many as 32,236 persons were treated by special medical camps. Food packets to the tune of 1,81,625 had been distributed. ” The CM claimed that they are taking actions on a war-footing whenever the information of rain effect was passed on.
