‘Card firms-PM deal’ tied to note ban: Ambedkar’s heir
In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of BR Ambedkar, attributed the motive behind demonetisation to an agreement allegedly entered into by the PM with American card companies in July 2016.
Madurai
Inaugurating the second national convention of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch in Madurai on Saturday, he said that earlier in 2014, Modi had announced that notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 printed before 2005 were invalid. “When such a measure was being taken to curb counterfeit currency, what prompted Modi to go in for demonetisation in 2016,” he asked. He further alleged that the main reason for the policy was the PM’s visit to America and it was based on the agreement he had made with American card companies in July last year.
The inaugural function of the three-day Dalit meet was also addressed by VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan. The event will conclude on Monday with the address of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Prakash further took a dig at the RSS and called the organisation above law, as it is not registered under any laws passed by the Parliament. He alleged that RSS wants to enforce Manusmriti. “In India, since the years of its formation, there is always a conflict between two ideas. Earlier, it was between the Parliamentary and Presidential forms of government. At present, the conflict is between the Constitution and Manusmriti,” he said.
“The present BJP government is backed by the RSS and they are trying to enforce Manusmriti. So, the organisation should be banned by the Constitution,” said Prakash.
In his address, Thirumavalavan appealed to the left parties to join hands with the Dalit parties for the unified attack against the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“If Modi comes to power for the second time, the present Constitution would be replaced by a new one based on Manusmriti,” he warned.
