Neighbours suffer badly, Tiruchy spared
While the NorthEast monsoon lashed heavily in most districts of the delta region, Tiruchy district remained calm and received less rains compared to the usual rainfall. The official data clarifies that the district received 55 per cent rain till Saturday.

Though the monsoon started from October 30, the rainfall in Tiruchy district was very little despite the skies appeared overcast most of the time. The sun played hide and seek almost every day while the neighbouring districts received good spells of rain.Â
According to the usual schedule, the district received the total rainfall of 101.7 mm till Saturday, against the usual rain fall of 197 mm. With 52 per cent of rainfall, the farmers expressed dissatisfaction that the water availability was less and the release from Mettur had also stopped anticipating rains.Â
Despite, poor rainfall recorded in the region, the district witnessed moderate rainfall since Friday night and mild rains all day long.Â
On Saturday, Tiruchy received the average rainfall of 4 mm against the usual rainfall of 77 mm. Among the places Deivamangalam received the maximum rainfall of 11 mm, while the other places like Marungapuri, Navalur Kuttapattu and Kallakudi received 10 mm rainfall.
