Enactment of rules on lines of Kerala to regulate PTAs mooted

Justice N Kirubakaran, while hearing a plea moved by M Natesan, president, Maniyanur Government High School, Salem, citing political intervention, said, “Taking into consideration the absence of any Act by which the PTA could be established in each school mandatorily, as has been done by the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of fee) Act 2011, in which section 4 makes it mandatory for every private school to constitute the PTA, time has come to enact an Act to form and regulate the PTA in Tamil Nadu.” 

“This court also takes note of the framing of the rules on the lines of Kerala called PTA Rules for regulating the affairs of the associations,” the judge added. 

Natesan moved the plea seeking a direction to the Chief Educational Officer, Salem and the Headmaster to abstain from removing the office-bearers of Parent Teachers Association under his presidentship, till the completion of the tenure. Stating that he took efforts for the development of the school, including sanctioning of funds to Rs 1 crore for construction of class rooms and toilets, he said since he belongs to OPS faction, the local MLA Sakthivel had sought to remove the existing office-bearers from the PTA.
