The arrested women were identified as Shanthi, Mary and Sumathi.Â
It is said that Pachayammal of Palamathi near Vellore had produced her 10-year-old daughter’s community certificate at ward’s school based on a request. The headmaster was suspicious of the authenticity of the certificate and sent it to the Vellore taluk office for verification.Â
The taluk officials revealed that the certificate was fake. Following this Tahsildar Balaji enquired with Pachayammal, who said she had gotten the certificate for a price from a woman, identified as Shanthi (48), at the entrance of the taluk office.Â
Balaji, who found Shanthi near his office on Monday, enquired with her. She confessed to producing fake certificates along with her accomplices Mary (32), Sumathi (36), Saravanan and Kavitha. Based on the Tahsildar’s complaint, police arrested the trio and are on the lookout for Saravanan and Kavitha.Â
