    108 ambulance fully equipped for rainy days

    The GVK-Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) 108-ambulance services has made elaborate arrangement for the approaching monsoon. Officials say that all necessary equipment are at their disposal to handle any eventuality. Further, 104 helpline and 108 ambulance will function round-the-clock. They will use spine boards to reach the water-logged patients.

    According to officials, ambulance pilots have been trained to handle emergency during rains. B Prabudoss, head of Tamil Nadu state marketing, GVK-EMRI 108 ambulance management said, in case relatives of patients were not able to reach us, they could contact the nearest police station and they in turn would inform us. “We will also use spine boards to reach the patients in water-logged areas. We have already used such equipment during 2015 floods,” he said and added that if there was a big disaster, they would seek help from fire and rescue services too.

    Further, public, who remain indoor could seek medical assistance by dialing 104 helpline, he said and stressed that they were fully ready to handle any eventuality. Dr J Radhakrishnan, state Health Secretary, said, “All measures are in place to face the monsoon and public can dial 108 and 104 for assistance in case of any emergency.” 

    COPS, CORPORATION READY CONTINGENCY PLAN

    With the NE monsoon expected to hit TN in a day, senior officials of city police and Chennai corporation conducted a coordination meeting on Thursday to discuss ways to handle situation due to heavy rains. Following decisions were taken at the meeting

    • To prevent inundation of roads, low lying areas.
    • Arrange for shelter for residents of low lying areas.
    • To keep boats, earth movers and cranes.
    • Identify senior citizens staying alone.
    • To alert EB officials about snapping of live wires.
    • To co-ordinate with health department to conduct medical camps.
