Railway warns of action on free travel by policemen
Reacting to the complaints of police personnel travelling free in trains, a top city police official pointed out that the police personnel cannot do so. He indicated that if they face any trouble by such travel, they will have to handle it themselves.

The letter from the senior divisional commercial manager, which raised the issue with the top police officials also stated, that whenever they are asked to produce their travel documents by ticket checking staff of the Chennai division, they just produced their identity card and continue their journey.
“It is requested to kindly instruct all the police personnel that they should possess a valid ticket / travel document when they undertake their journey in the trains and EMUs. If the police personnel are found travelling without valid ticket, necessary action shall be initiated to collect penalty as per railway rules,” the letter further said.
A senior railway official, however pointed out that not only police personnel travel free on train, but also railway employees. Railway staff are allowed to travel free if they are on duty and not go to office and return home.
“The change has to come from railway staff first. Then only other government staff, including the police, will follow. Then the public will stop travelling without ticket,” he noted.
