Pay arrears to ryots, urges PMK
The PMK on Sunday urged the state government to disburse arrears to the sugarcane farmers. PMK youth wing leader and sitting MP Anbumani Ramadoss, in a statement, said that the farmers are fuming over the minimum price for sugarcane provided by private mills.

“Further, the government has announced State Advised Price (SAP) as Rs 2,650 per tonne, in which the mills would take away Rs 100 as transportation charge. But the private sugarcane mills only give Rs 2,250, while some mills have not provided the prescribed amount to the farmers,” he said.
He added that the private sugarcane mills have flouted the SAP fixed by the government, pushing the farmers into distress. Adding to the worst, some farmers still remain defaulters, since they are waiting to receive the pending amount from the mill owners.
Stating that the PMK has continuously been insisting the government to order the release of arrears, Anbumani said that even though Industry Minister MC Sampath has assured that the arrears would be given before Deepavali, the farmers were not getting it even five days after the festival. “Sugarcane farmers are struggling to repay their loans,” he added.
