Pointing out that Tamil Nadu tops in corruption, the CPI leader wanted the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to step down as the Rs 1000 crore bitumen scam happened in his own ministry. “He should allow a fair investigation. The court has been moved for a CBI probe into the issue,” he said.

On the Porayar tragedy that claimed the lives of eight bus crew, Mutharasan said, “The ill-fated building, which was constructed in 1943, was only taken into possession by the DMK and was not built during its rule as claimed by Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan”.

Doubting the intention of Election Commission over the delay in announcing the poll date for RK Nagar, the CPI leader said that even in Gujarat welfare schemes were announced with an eye on elections. “Voters may lose their faith on the EC,” he said.

Mutharasan further said that the state and Central governments should take efforts to set free Perarivalan, one of the convicts in the Raji Gandhi assassination case, on mercy grounds.
