Addressing the public at the centenary celebrations of MGR at Pudukkottai o Saturday, the Chief Minister said, “Tamil Nadu is in the forefront of medical services among the states in India and it is the only state that established a medical commission to recruit staff through which as many as 10,093 doctors and 9,190 medical staff have been recruited so far.”

Meanwhile, he stated that the ‘Amma’ government has been taking all sorts of preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue in the state.

“Dengue prevention is of course a great challenge before the government and the state is equipped with additional beds in hospitals and adequate medical facilities. Not only with the efforts of the administration, but also with the support of the public, the disease can be rooted out completely,” he said.

Palaniswami, hitting at DMK working president and Leader of Opposition MK Stalin, who had criticised the ruling government on dengue prevention works, said Stalin should be aware of the measures taken by the government. Stating that the opposition parties are equally responsible in carrying out preventive works in controlling the disease outbreaks, the Chief Minister charged that they have been politicising the health issue. Instead, they can come out with solutions, he said.

Speaking at the function, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said DMK has no base to speak against the government. “DMK was part of the Union government and was bending before the Centre unmindful of the killings of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka and as such they are not eligible to speak against ‘Amma’ government,” he said.
