29 special bus booking counters opened in city
To ensure convenience of commuters during Deepavali, state Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar on Friday inaugurated 29 special computerised booking counters in the city.

Out of them, 26 will function at Koyambedu bus terminus. The Minister while warning of stern action against omni buses, which collect exorbitant fare from passengers also, noted that unfit TNSTC and SETC buses will not be operated.
According to transport officials, Tambaram Sanatorium will have two booking centres, while one will function at the Poonamallee temporary bus stand.
The transport department would operate a total of 4,820 special buses from October 15 to 17. The mofussil buses from Koyambedu will be diverted to different bus terminuses to avoid traffic congestion, the official added.
Addressing the media, the Minister said, “Transport and Regional Transport Officials will be pressed into service to monitor the fares collected by omni buses. We will take action against owners of buses indulging in malpractices and those buses will be impounded.”
To a pointed question, the Minister said that all the special buses will be fit for travel and no unfit buses will be operated. It may be noted that the transport corporation has already set up bus stops at MTC bus stands in Anna Nagar (West), State Election Commission bus stop opposite CMBT on the 100 feet Road, Arignar Anna Bus Stand at Tambaram Sanatorium (MEPZ) and Poonamallee bus stand. After the festival, for four days from October 19, as many as 3,794 special buses apart from the regular fleet of 2,275 will be operated from other places to Chennai.
