Opposition parties ‘sting’ govt over continuing deaths
Condemning the state and Centre for failing to contain the outbreak of dengue fever cases, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) staged a protest at Valluvarkottam on Wednesday.

VCK chief Thirumalavan urged the state government to provide health insurance coverage for patients undergoing treatment for dengue fever cases across the state.
He also said that, “Dengue cases could have been in check had the government conducted local body elections on time. Since there are no civic representatives across the state, monitoring fever cases has miserably failed.”
Emergency steps needed
DMDK leader Vijayakanth and MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday complained that the facilities and personnel at government hospitals were not sufficient to treat dengue cases. Vijayakanth appealed to party cadre to create awareness among the public on dengue. The cadres should involve themselves in activities of removing garbage, cleaning sewage, spraying medicines and bleaching powder to avoid mosquito breeding, he said.
Vaiko, speaking to the media in the city, asked the government to step up the dengue control measures, so that the disease is controlled before November, when the stagnation of rain water would be heavy.
