Lab technician among 5 dengue victims in west TN
Five persons including three children have succumbed to suspected dengue in Coimbatore and Salem districts since Thursday night. In Salem district, Vinithra, 19, who is doing her second year lab technician course at Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Hospital died without responding to treatment on Friday.

The girl was undergoing training at Mettur Government Hospital, where she is suspected to have got infected with dengue fever. Vinithra was admitted to a private hospital in Salem; however she died without responding to treatment on Friday. Similarly in Coimbatore district, three children and a young woman died of dengue like symptoms on Thursday night.
Priyahasini, 6, from Alandurai, Saranya from Madathukulam area, Sathyavathy, 8 and Vanisri, 20, (all three from Tirupur) died without responding to treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). As death toll due to dengue had kept mounting, District Collector TN Hariharan had inspected the dengue ward at CMCH.
“Round the clock treatment is given to people coming to GH with fever and arrangements have been made to do blood tests for patients,” he said. Hospital authorities said that 35 persons are undergoing treatment for dengue and 190 persons for viral fever at CMCH besides many others in private hospitals. Dengue prevention activities accelerated In Tiruchy, civic bodies have accelerated preventive steps against dengue on Friday. According to officials, a special team of health staff and doctors has been conducting inspection at the residences of victims.
The civic body had instructed schools to sensitise children on source detection and removal of garbage which could be breeding spots for the mosquitoes. The officials also instructed the school authorities not to keep clean water in open containers. School children were shown the aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads the dengue virus. While fogging activities were initiated across the city, staff were asked to visit individual households to create awareness against dengue.
They asked the people to rush those suffering from high fever to GH. Special medical camps have been arranged in residential areas.
