After DTNext reported about the shortage of beds in Madurai GRH, Maruthupandian addressed the media about the issue and said that from January to September, this year,1046 persons were admitted of fever at Madurai GRH but only 270 had tested dengue positive and the remaining 876 who had ordinary viral fever were discharged.

He also said that there are enough medicines at the hospital and doctors are working day and night to take care of the dengue patients. Also, spread of dengue had been contained and there is no need to panic said Dean.

When asked about the deaths due to dengue he categorically replied that there are no dengue deaths at Madurai GRH.

He also replied that an additional 30 beds would be added in the ward. There are free beds in some of the wards such as neurological wards and the beds would be shifted to dengue ward, added the Dean.

Joint Director (Health), Rukmani, who was present at the press meet, said that quacks are another reason for spread of dengue as they do not give proper treatment for it. So far, 72 quacks have been identified in the district and they are being arrested, said Rukmani.
