High time to capitalise youth's strength for country's progress: TN Governor
India is one of the youngest nations in the world with the population's average age being 29, eight years younger than average age of China and Japan so, it is the time to capitalise on the strength for the progress of the country, said Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Wednesday.

Delivering the 26th convocation address of Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute University at Maduravoyal, he said, "India is known for its rich culture and heritage. We culturally dominated China for over 20 centuries without even waging a single war which speaks of our cultural strength'. Convocation is not only a time to rejoice but a moment to look back at our past and analyse all the obstacles and difficulties we came across.
"Education is not complete without teaching character. A river will not drink its own water. So, our life is incomplete without giving back to the society," he said.Â
Delivering a keynote address, University Chancellor AC Shanmugam, said, "Since our start way back in 1988, we have worked hard to give quality education to the students. We are accredited with A grade by NAAC. Right now, we are employing over 7,000 staff who are rendering their services to over 30,000 students. We have also collaborated with over 40 foreign universities."
On the occasion, 2,500 students from B Tech, MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, Hotel Management, BPT, BCom, BBA, BCA, MDS, MTech, MBA, MCA, MPT, and Phd streams received degrees. Honorary degrees were also conferred on actor Mohan Babu (Doctor of Letters) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Technical Director S Singha Roy (Doctor of Science). University president ACS Arun Kumar, chancellor RM Vasagam, Vice- Chancellor K Meer Mustafa Hussain, Pro Vice-Chancellor CS Jayachandran and other officials of the university participated.
