Aadhaar mere ID proof in marriage registration
Aadhaar can be utilised only as proof of identity for registration of marriages under the provisions of Hindu Marriage Act, 1976, said an internal communique by the Inspector General of Registration.
Chennai
“It could neither be accepted as a proof for citizenship nor domicile, as the provisions under Aadhaar Act, 2016 makes it only as an identity proof,” it stated.
It said that the Registration staff should ensure that the name, initials and addresses of the parents of the bride and groom match in the corresponding proofs submitted.
Brides and grooms should provide death certificates if either or both of their parents had died. Similarly, it advised the staff to obtain death certificate of the deceased spouse in case the applicant was either a widow or widower.
