The Head of the Department (HOD) of Journalism and Science Communication at Madurai Kamaraj University was stabbed 21 times by a former guest lecturer at the university premises on Tuesday.
Madurai
Police said, guest lecturer Jothimani (32), held a grudge against Jenefa (40), the HOD, as his contract had not been renewed since 2016. Even his application for PhD under Jenefa’s guidance was rejected. This made him attack Jenefa inside her cabin.
After the incident, he tried to escape, but was caught by the students and lecturers, who handed him over to police. Jenefa was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital. Vice Chancellor of MKU, PP Chelladurai, who visited the hospital, said that had Jenefa informed the management about the issue earlier, the incident could have been deftly handled.Â
