The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar, on hearing a plea seeking a direction to the State to provide continuous and uninterrupted treatment to these children, said, “The Committee shall submit a report on the kinds of treatment / supportive care available for the children in the state suffering from LSD, and the efficacy thereof.”

Noting that the committee may take the opinion of doctors, the bench held that “In the meantime, children suffering from the disorder may be examined by the specialists in the committee, at Government cost.”

Government Pleader Vasudha Thigarajan submitted that supportive care is given to all children afflicted with the disease. The committee formed included Health Secretary, Director of Medical Education, Director of Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore, Dr Sreelakshmi, head, Department of Genetics, Dr MGR Medical University, Dr Sumita Danda, CMC, Vellore, Dr Sujatha Jagadeesh, Medi Scan, Chennai, and V Ramesh, counsel for the petitioner. The case has been posted for further hearing to October 23.
