    Seven persons carrying foreign currencies arrested at Tiruchy airport

    Seven passengers were secured by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths along with the customs authorities for carrying various foreign currencies worth Rs 40 lakh. The entire money was concealed in their rectum and in their baggage.

    Based on a tip-off, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence authorities and customs authorities began to scrutinise the passengers. The DRI had actually received information that Chennai-based passengers have been attempting to smuggle foreign currency into India by concealing it in their belongings. 

    Acting on the information, the officials had a thorough check of the passengers who arrived by the flight AK 26 at 11.35 pm on Monday night from Kuala Lumpur. Seven passengers, who were identified as Amith Khan (32), Rowther (27), Hazrath Mohammed (33), Khan Sahib (37), Rahumath Ali (31), Aazath Ahmed (26) and Mohammed Younus (29) were secured and taken for investigation.

    The sleuths found different kinds of currencies such as Euro, riyal and dollars of various countries from the bags of the passengers. Some of the currencies were found hidden in their rectum. 

    The total cost of foreign currencies was valued at of Rs 40 lakh. The police after nabbing the five are interrogating them about the source of money and the kingpin behind it.
