ONGC effluent tank catches fire near Neduvasal, doused with sand
Revenue officials who inspected the spot where the ONGC effluent tank had reportedly caught fire after garbage was dumped near it, put out the flames with help from the fire services personnel and closed the pit with sand on Friday.

Sources said the exploration well of ONGC located at Nallandarkottai near Neduvasal had reportedly developed a leak. On Thursday, a sudden fire broke out due to collection of garbage in the pit close to the well. The residents who had been staging a protest for more than four months concerning the exploration well, raised an alarm. The revenue officials, who immediately reached the spot took note of the damage. Fire personnel from Keeramangalam and Karambakudi who rushed to the spot, doused the fire. On Friday, a team of revenue officials led by Karambakudi Tahsildar Sakthivel visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. The residents demanded the officials remove the exploration well and close the tank. The officials assured them the pit would be levelled and the entire pit was closed with sand subsequently.
