Madurai
Armed with their four key demands, JACTTO-GEO members staged theri protest for the eighth consecutive day. On Wednesday they launched a wait in protest inside the campus of Madurai Collectorate and then continued their protest in the night by staying inside the Collectorate.
However, police assembled at the Collectorate on Thursday morning and tried to take them into custody. Protesters said that they are ready for an arrest but wanted all the members to be taken into custody. Following their demands, they were taken into custody after two hours.
During their arrest, the members raised slogans that the government instead of holding talks is just threatening them using the police force. They vehemently said that they will not withdraw their protests until their demands are met. “Our protests would only intensify if such autocratic ways are followed,” warned the protesters. However, more than 1000 protesters were taken into custody and kept inside the police Armed Reserve (AR) ground. When they were let off in the evening, the protesters once again returned to the Collectorate and continued their protest. The protesters said that no coercive methods can end their protest. “We will stay united and will protest until all our demands are met,” said the protesters.
Women protesters too had stayed back at the Collectorate, in the night, expressing their solidarity.
