Protests by teachers also reason for NEET flop: Madras HC
Even as hundreds of government school teachers, along with other government staff are on strike seeking implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, the Madras High Court on Wednesday came down heavily on teachers stating that such boycotts and protests were also a primary reason behind government school students fairing badly in NEET.

Justice N Kirubakaran, while directing the government to file a report explaining the steps taken to end the ongoing protests, said, “Protesting teachers should feel ashamed of the fact that mere five government school students have managed to secure medical seats. The teachers should be aware of their responsibilities and that they could not afford to indulge in strikes.”
Also, seeking answers for a slew of questions which included the number of teachers and unions on strike, the number of schools affected owing to this and the action taken by the government to prevent teachers from boycotting work, Justice Kirubakaran said, “The prevailing situation is only a tip of the iceberg about the way in which many of the Government school teachers are working.”
The observations had come forth on a plea moved by advocate AP Suryaprakasam seeking for a direction to the government to form an expert committee to effectively advise and prepare the student community who have scored low marks in NEET. The plea also sought to provide psychological and moral support to them.
The petitioner also submitted that the student community is not only in a state of shock but also feels let down by the State and Central governments. The plea has been posted for further hearing to September 18.
