Photographs of Vijay squatting on the floor and consoling Shamugham were doing the rounds on social networking sites. Though the high and mighty of Tamil Nadu politics (except members of the ruling AIADMK and BJP) and a few prominent Kollywood directors have been flocking to Kuzhumur, Vijay was the prominent Kollywood star to have visited Anitha’s village.
Kollywood stars have jumped on to the anti-NEET bandwagon after the student’s suicide, which had whipped up a a slew of protests in the state with even school students had talking to the streets in defiance of the Supreme Court order on holding anti-NEET protests.
Kabali fame director Pa Ranjith had also kicked off a controversy after publicly objecting to his Kollywood colleagues or rather Tamil nationalists sidestepping the issue of caste (read as caste discrimination) during a meeting against NEET, so much so that his public tirade evoked a sharp reaction from moviemaker turned politician Seeman.
Even the likes of Vijay Sethupathi and directors Ameer, Gowthaman and Karu Palaniappan had volunteered to express solidarity on the issue of NEET. An otherwise politically reticent Vijay Sethupathi had even suggested that politics should be taught to the future generations to eradicate caste discrimination.
