After 144 years, Pushkaram to be held in Cauvery delta
More than 50,000 devotees are expected to take part in the Pushkaram festival that will be held along the Cauvery after a gap of 144 years.

The city corporation has arranged for mobile toilets and over 400 officials have been deputed at the Ammamandapam bathing ghat.
Artificial showers have been placed along the river banks for devotees to take bath.
Sundar Bhatter of Srirangam Temple and a member of the Pushkaram organising committee said there will be worship, yoga, poojas during the festival. About 50 pandits from across countries will be coming here for the poojas and yoga, he said and added that special poojas will also be conducted for good rainfall and welfare of farmers. Meanwhile, a senior from civic body said that about 400 workers including 300 sanitary staff, 50 supervisors and officials have been given the task of maintaining cleanliness. As the river is bone dry, the city corporation has dug up borewells near the banks for artificial showers.
Similarly, District Manager of the 108 services, R Kannan said, “Four 108 ambulances and bikes will be stationed at strategic points to tackle emergencies. On Monday, Jeers from Srirangam, Srivilliputhur and Mannargudi led a procession which began at the Ranga Ranga Gopuram, which went along the main streets and ended at the Mamundi Konar thidal.
