School students latest group to join anti-NEET protest
A week after protests unfurled in the state against NEET following the death of 17-year-old Anitha, the agitation continued in several campuses across the state forcing managements to close down institutions. Police said that on Thursday, 12 protesters including two transgenders were arrested for the first time in the city.

About 100 protesters, who called themselves Anitha Agitation Group, gathered before the Intellectual Property of India (IPI) office premises in Guindy and raised slogans against World Trade Organisation (WTO) claiming that the central government was taking measures to satisfy the international body and that NEET was one such step.
When they tried to enter the IPI premises, 12 protesters, all graduates, were secured and produced before the Magistrate and remanded in the evening.
Meanwhile, New College students continued their protests for the second day on Thursday.
Similar protests were held in Pachayappas’ College, Presidency College and a few colleges on the outskirts.
In Tiruchy, protests saw a participation of a large number of school students. Senthurai Government Higher Secondary school students staged a series of protests and blocked the road. Students of Kumbakonam Government Arts college for women boycotted classes and staged a sitin on Thursday. Following the continued protest by students of Kumbakonam Government Arts college (autonomous), the administration had declared an indefinite closure from Wednesday.
