The team was headed by Krongkanit Rakcharoen from Thailand Consulate-General. Along with the AMRL team, the Thailand team visited a couple of units operating inside SEZ to assess the probability of carrying on a business, the advantages, latent technologies and benefits. The visit was also aimed to identify the market potential in Tamil Nadu for companies based in Thailand and explore possibilities of manufacturing in India under ‘Make in India’ Programme.

Krongkanit Rakcharoen said that she and her team were happy to visit the AMRL Special Economic Zone. The purpose of their visit is to make a thorough survey of the market and try to rope in more Thai Investors to Tamil Nadu. She is sure that visits like this will enhance the trade co-operations and business linkages between Thailand and India. She thanked the AMRL officials who had facilitated

    their visit.

The authorities at the SEZ said that AMRL SEZ is spread over 2500 acres in Tirunelveli district with infrastructure to suit the nature of the industries within the zone. Currently, the SEZ has the capacity to house a diverse set of industries including textiles, electronics, general engineering, aerospace, auto components, logistics and warehousing. It also offers a plethora of choices for businesses from land lease to ready to move in factories and warehousing facilities with assured power and water supply, availability of skilled, employable and inexpensive human resources and all other infrastructure in place.

The officials also said that AMRL SEZ is located on NH-7 and is in close proximity to Thoothukudi Port and Airport. The estimated total exports from AMRL SEZ would be about Rs.10,000 crore, with direct employment opportunities for over 30,000 people in the next 5-7 years.

It has a potential to generate employment for about one lakh people in the long run and is set to become one of India’s most vibrant Industrial zones, said the authorities.
