Officials blame transport unions of diverting talks

The state transport officials have accused the union leaders of creating confusion and bringing in new demands over and again. Officials say that even after the department is conducting marathon talks to settle the issues, the union leaders intentionally ask about department’s internal issues during the talks.

According to union members, they demanded the officials to fulfil 32-charter points, which were already agreed by the government. However, though the transport officials have agreed to pay attention on these issues, some of the demands are not met so far, the members said.

Even after seven-rounds of talks, the state transport employees are still facing issues like pending arrears and promotions.

A Natarajan, Convener, Labour Progressive Federation, said, “Every union leader has right to ask any question pertaining to income and expenditure of the department.”

V Krishnamurthy, MD, MTC and head of the talks panel, told DT Next, “We have resolved almost all the demands put forth by the staff and are keen to sort out the remaining issues.”
