BJP fully prepared for local body battle

The state BJP functionaries welcoming the Madras High Court direction to the Election Commission to conduct the civic polls by November 17 said that the national party is fully prepared to face the elections alone. They exuded hope that the BJP will gain a strong foothold in the civic polls. However, political critics express pessimism that the present crisis in the state will not pave the way for the BJP to win the elections.

BJP men said that they have already hit the ground running and are waiting for civic polls to show their strength. Further, they have continuously been visiting the people ward by ward especially in rural areas and there is a good response among the public, who are well aware of the Centre’s schemes.

Speaking to DT Next, Tamilisai Soundararajan, president state BJP unit said, “The BJP is confident of victory in the civic polls as we are fully prepared. Further, more cadre in the recent years have joined the party and we have enough candidates both in rural and urban areas.”

When asked, whether the present crisis in the state would affect the BJP’s growth, Tamilisai replied, “The ongoing crisis will not affect the prospects of BJP in the state. There are some political parties that are conspiring against the Centre and people are well aware of it. Local body election is about civic issues, not political issues,” she said.

She added that DMK will not be able to win as it is conducting a false campaign against the Centre. Meanwhile, political observers say that chances of the BJP win are remote at this point in time.

A Marx, a political analyst, said, “Crisis like the NEET and suicide of a girl student in Ariyalur are simmering in the state. Under these circumstances, BJP will find it difficult to win even a single seat.” People are angry at both the ruling AIADMK and the BJP, he added.
