The rainfall was witnessed in two phases — one in afternoon and another after dusk. In the first phase, even though the shower was moderate, it continued for more than three hours. The second phase, however, which also lasted for over three hours was extremely heavy. The heavy downpour damaged many roads. Rural areas here received more rainfall than city. Peraiyur received the highest rainfall of 118 mm in the district. It was followed by Pulipatti with 91.6 mm and Kuppanampatti with 74 mm. Regions like Madurai Airport and Chittampatti received 71.3 mm and 70.5 mm of rainfall. Some of the urban areas, like Tallakulam received 65 mm of rainfall.
