While hitting out at the ruling AIADMK party for failing to secure NEET exemption for the state, he said that the young girl’s suicide is a clear indication that NEET is detrimental to all the students, who could not score marks in the common entrance exam. “Though Anitha belonged to a poor family, she secured 1,176 marks in the Class 12 board examination, but NEET took her life. She would have surely got a medical seat, had the state and Centre taken efforts to exempt the state from NEET,” Stalin said.

Stating that even entrance examination for medical course was completely cancelled during DMK regime, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) noted that the DMK government took care of students from rural areas. “All the villages had doctors at that time. However, it took an ugly turn after AIADMK came to power. Things had gone from bad to worse after former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s demise and a benami government is ruling the roost,” the DMK leader noted.

Stalin also appealed to the students not to take such steps.
