Jaya’s sand sculpture: Litigant rapped
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Friday rebuked a petitioner, who sought the removal of a sand sculpture of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa from a state highway in Kanniyakumari district and told him not to use the court for political reasons.
Madurai
A Division Bench of Justices KK Sasidharan and GR Swaminathan dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a DMK party man R Mahesh, saying “don’t use the court for political reasons.”
The petitioner in his PIL stated that the AIADMK men raised a sand sculpture of Jayalalithaa after her demise near the statue of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran near the state highway at Vadasery in Nagercoil.
The AIADMK men did not get permission from the authorities for erecting it. The petitioner also alleged that AIADMK Rajya Sabha Member Vijaya Kumar has set up a pandal over the sand sculpture and kept his name board in order to claim ownership of the land. Refuting the allegation, the counsel of Rajya Sabha member termed the PIL as politically motivated and appealed to the court to dismiss it.
