3 MLAs in TTV camp warm up to Stalin, DMK wary

MLAs M Thamimun Ansari, S Karunaas and U Thaniyarasu on Tuesday visited DMK working president MK Stalin at the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam, ostensibly, to thank him for contributing to the release of Rajiv Gandhi murder case convict Perarivalan on parole.

However, enquiries with DMK sources revealed that the trio have discussed enough politics with Stalin to keep leaders of the AIADMK guessing, mainly the ones in the OPS-EPS camp which appears to have been shaken by the gradual defection of its legislators.
Though Ansari, Karunaas and Thaniyarasu, who support AIADMK and had fought election under its banner, have enough reasons to side with TTV Dinakaran, even DMK insiders privy to the meeting were not averse to admitting that they could see the three MLAs showing willingness to gravitate towards them.
However, the DMK leadership is not at all excited with their visit. “They have also met the CM today. They are batting for a united AIADMK led by Sasikala. The current political situation drives them towards us. The MLAs might even be trying to raise their stakes elsewhere by engaging us. We have to be wary of them warming up to us,” a source close to the DMK leadership said, while conceding that though TTV has yet to officially hold parleys, he has established communication with people close to their leader. Another senior DMK leader requesting anonymity reasoned that the party high command was exercising restraint because they do not want any hasty move on their part to unite a divided AIADMK.
