Symbol case: ‘List 3 leaders as respondents’
The Madurai HC Bench on Tuesday had directed the petitioner to add the AIADMK leaders, including CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy CM O Panneerselvam and sidelined deputy general secretary of AIADMK TTV Dinakaran, as respondents in a petition which sought to appoint a retired Judge to solve the problem within the AIADMK and to recover the lost party symbol.
Madurai
Ramkumar Adithan of Tiruchendur in his petition had stated that owing to the ongoing internal squabbles in the AIADMK the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol had been blocked by the EC and each faction had submitted separate affidavit claiming that they were only the original AIADMK.
When a similar situation prevailed in the Congress and SP, the symbol was allotted to the faction, which had the support of the large number of fucntionaries. The petitioner had also stated that similarly, all the 3,100 members of the general council, executive committee, MPs, MLAs of the AIADMK should vote in a single venue under the supervision of a retired Judge to determine the majority.
When the petition came up for hearing, Judges KK Sasidharan and GR Swaminathan, directed to include the three AIADMK leaders as respondents in the case and adjourned the case to August 31.
