Writ petition to decide fate of Jayalalithaa’s statue installation in Kancheepuram
The installation of a statue of the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa within the Kancheepuram Municipal Office has run into rough weather with the Madras High Court making it clear that the erection of the statue is subject to the result of the writ petition moved against it.

A division bench comprising Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice N Seshasayee before whom a PIL moved by K Gothandan of Chinna Kancheepuram came up for hearing also issued a notice to the Government returnable by September 18.
The petitioner is a part of “Murpokku Samooga Needhi Peravai,” on referring to news reports that a statue of Jayalalithaa is going to be installed at the cost of Government within the premises of Kancheepuram Greater Municipality on August 30, said that it is against law to install the statue of a person convicted by court for offences of corruption.
Verdict reserved in Kumari Jaya sand sculpture case
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, on Monday, had reserved the final orders in a petition that sought the removal of the sand sculpture of former Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, on state highways at Vadaseri in Nagercoil.
Petitioner Ramesh from Nagercoil, in his PIL, had stated that following the death of Jayalithaa, Kanniyakumari AIADMK District Secretary Vijayakumar had installed a sand sculpture of Jayalalithaa at the middle of the state highways, disrupting the traffic at Vadaseri in December 2016.
When PP sought time to get more details from the officials concerned Judges refused and reserved the verdict in the case on September 1.
