Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a regional-level discussion meeting with education department officials, Anandakrishnan said that the present education system should be revived, so that it would be accepted by the students, teachers and parents. The curriculum framework committee has been constituted to find the deficiencies in the system and suggest ways to rectify it.
“Education should impart the basic knowledge and understanding to the students. But without giving priority to develop the knowledge of the students, they are trained just to score marks,” he claimed.
Stating that the students from the state have been facing difficulties in appearing for competitive exams due to poor understanding capability, the committee Chairman said that the new curriculum formed is not only to crack NEET, but also to get through any kind of examinations.
The curriculum should enable the students to improve their thinking capabilities, he said. “The committee has been organising regional-level discussion meeting with the education department officials and experts.
The draft syllabus would be prepared within six months and for the academic year 2018-19, the syllabus for Classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 would be ready along with the books. There are chances for changing the educational system from the coming academic year,” hinted Anandakrishnan.
