Orders reserved in murder case of man, daughter
The Madras HC has reserved its orders on an appeal against Tiruppur Mahila Court order awarding death sentence to two persons and life imprisonment to three others for the murder of a man and his 11-year old daughter after sexually assaulting her in October 2015.

A division bench comprising Justice P N Prakash and Justice C V Karthikeyan which held a special sitting here on Saturday, reserved its judgement without mentioning a date. As per the prosecution, a powerloom worker, Thangavel of Palladam and his 11year old daughter were burnt to death at different places, on October six 2015, reportedly over some financial dispute. While Thangavel’s body was found near Mangalam, the girl’s body was recovered in Vadavalli in Coimbatore. Postmortem report indicated that the girl was assaulted sexually and was alive when she was burnt.Â
Judge Mohammed Jiyabutheen awarded death sentence for Selvam and Rangaraj after observing that it was a ‘rarest of rare’ case since the minor girl was burnt alive after sexual assault. Three others– Daivasigaanai, Nagaraj and Anand-involved in kidnap and murder, were sentenced to undergo life imprisonment until death.
