TTV Dinakaran names new office-bearers to tighten grip over party, counter EPS
Stating lack of a decision on merger as a reason, party’s deputy general secretary ‘takes charge’ of AIADMK (A)

Interacting with the media at his residence on Friday evening, Dinakaran said that he had been initiating action when he stepped aside for 60 days for the two factions to unite. “But knowing that they would be unable to do so, I have been doing the needful from home. However, there is a limit to our patience,” he said. Dinakaran also said that he had kept quiet for 60 days hoping for a merger following requests from some senior ministers. “But this should not mean I was cowed down.”
Asked about the new office bearers he had appointed, Dinakaran said, “It is to encourage party cadres and those who have not been given any post till now, keeping in mind the 2019 general elections which we hope to win with a thumping majority. In the polls, our candidates will contest on the two leaves symbol and win majority.
” Regarding his visit to the party office, Dinakaran said “It is our property, our temple and so we do not need anybody’s permission to enter it.” He added that he would announce his visit to the party office, two days ahead and that police presence might be to prevent miscreants acting against him when we came to the office.
“My room in the party office is there and it is not occupied by others,” he said. Asked about minister D Jayakumar’s repeated statements against him, Dinakaran said, “It might be due to some fear he has. I hope he comes out of that fear soon. We feel that they all will come out of their fear soon.”

Chennai: Even as all the three factions of the AIADMK (EPS-led group, OPS-led group and the TTV Dinakaran group) are engaged in a pitched battle to take control of the party, the Election Commission of India, in a recent RTI response, has clearly stated that the matter is ‘still pending’. To a query on who is the present General Secretary of AIADMK as per ECI records, the commission said that ‘at present there is an internal dispute in the AIADMK. The matter regarding office bearers is pending with the Commission’.
