Two Gujarat women die as lorry hits stationary van in Thoothukudi
Two women from Surat in Gujarat, who were touring southern districts died in a road accident near Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district, on Thursday.

Kansha Ben and Shinkan Ben, along with their family and friends had reached Madurai from Surat on Thursday by train. They had taken a van to go to Kanniyakumari. When the van reached Asoor post near Kovilpatti, it stopped on the National Highway as the driver wanted to attend nature’s call.
When the van was stationed on the roadside, a lorry carrying onions from Madurai to Tiruvananthapuram, hit the vehicle from behind. In the incident, two women, who were standing in front of the van, died as the van ran over them.
Twelve more tourists, who were in the van, sustained injuries. They were immediately rushed to the Kovilpatti GH for treatment. The bodies were also taken to the Kovilpatti GH for post mortem.
An accident case has been registered and Kovilpatti police are investigating the incident.
Both the lorry and the van were completely damaged in the incident.
