On Wednesday night, a family of five, including a child, from Madhya Pradesh was lost in the island.

They had reached the island in an auto but the driver after dropping them had left the spot because of which they were left clueless.

Members of the family said, “We were clueless and did not know how to get back to the mainland. We walked here and there and then decided to walk on the new road.” Just as they began to trudge along the 9.5 km road they were spotted by a policeman and a journalist who were returning after work. Thanks to both of them, the family members were dropped at Rameswaram on their 2-wheeler.

Ever since the new 9.5 km road to Dhanushkodi was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, there has been a surge in the number of tourists visiting the town.

However, tourists say that they do not feel safe to go around the ruins beyond 5 pm. The authorities too do not allow tourists to look around the town after 6 pm. Even the last bus service to the island is at 5 pm.
