Cops seek custody of accused in Sasi Kumar murder
Saddam Barkathullah (27) of KK Nagar in Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore, who was arrested by the Special Investigation Division (SID) of the Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Hindu Munnani functionary G Sasikumar (36) was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Coimbatore on Wednesday afternoon.

CJM KR Madurasekaran directed Saddam to be lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison till August 16.
Meanwhile the Special Investigation Division also sought police custody of Saddam for 10 days.
The CJM asked Saddam’s counsels to file a counter petition on Thursday.
Special Investigation Division said that a gang of four in a car followed the victim’s scooter and hacked him to death. Stating that Saddam was one of them, they said they are on the lookout for one of his accomplices, Mubarak.
The special team claimed that Saddam did not disclose the name of the two other accused.
It is learnt that the accused belonged to a radical outfit and had committed the murder over a communal motive. The police said they are yet to recover the weapons and the vehicle used by the accused for committing the murder, in addition to the other key evidences.
