In a big setback to senior police officer SR Jangid, the Madras High Court has ordered maintenance of status quo in his promotion as Director General of Police (DGP).

Entertaining a writ petition moved by V Vidya of T Nagar, Justice S M Subramaniam on Monday said, “The government pleader requested to grant a week to produce the file in this regard.
List on August 7, till such time status quo ordered.” The judge also directed the GP to inform the respondents, including the union home secretary, chief secretary, DGP and Jangid about the status quo over phone. The petitioner had submitted that six false cases were filed against her under the behest of Jangid.
The High Court had quashed two cases in 2014 and even the SC had dismissed the appeal. While so, the state Home Secretary included Jangid’s name in the panel approved by the Union Home Ministry for promotion as DGP, which was not done in accordance with law.
