“The project of Rs 1,516 crore will be fully funded by the state and it will be completed in 30 months, before the tenure of this government ends,” he said at the MGR Centenary celebrations organised by the state at Palladam in Tirupur district on Saturday.
Palaniswami said, “We announced Rs 250 crore for the project this year. On a detailed study of the two project proposals, we realised that the earlier proposal we wanted to execute would take seven to eight years for completion. It also required funds from the Centre,” he said.
The CM added that the project that they have now finalised would commence in December and will be completed in 30 months. He said the 1.5 TMC water, the project requires, will be pumped from the Kalingarayanpalayam at Bhavani for 70 days in a year to recharge 70 lakes and tanks and 630 ponds.
Terming the politically much criticised Rule 110 of the Assembly a wonderful one for which former chief minister J Jayalalithaa gave life, he said that all the announcements she had made under the rule had been fulfilled.
“People used to eagerly wait to know what she had announced Under 110,” he said. Earlier, he inaugurated various projects in Tirupur, laid foundation for upcoming projects and distributed assistance to beneficiaries under government schemes at the birth centenary celebrations of MGR in the district.
Prior to the programme, representatives of various industrial bodies in Tirupur and Coimbatore region submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister. At the airport, when asked about Kamal Haasan’s allegations, the Chief Minister replied, “I will respond to them when the actor enters politics.”
