Tamil Nadu accounts for the maximum number of PCR (Protection of Civil Rights) cases and atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, of which Tirunelveli district was on top, a top official of National Commission for Scheduled Castes said today.

"Tamil Nadu state as a whole accounts for the maximum number of PCR cases and atrocities against SC/ST cases and Tirunelveli district acounts for maxiumum number of 412 cases," NCSC Vice-Chairman L Murugan said.

He attributed the maximum number of cases in the district to lack of education and unemployment.

He was speaking to reporters after inspecting several Adi Dravidar welfare schemes and hostels and reviewing the cases filed for atrocities against SCs.

Murugan said action should be taken to expedite the cases.

Stating that NCSC had also sought a report from the education department on the muster roll followed by pivate schools in admitting SC students, he said the government and aided schools were following the reservation norms well in Tamil Nadu.

He said bio-metric attendance system would be introduced in Tamil Nadu in all adidravidar hostels run for students.

Murugan also urged the state government to provide relief to those affected by the atrocities, either by providing them job or monetary compensation.

He also inspected various SC welfare schemes implemented under Centrally sponsored schemes.
