2010 case: Charges framed against Sukesh
Charges were framed against the prime accused in the AIADMK party symbol bribery case Sukesh Chandrasekar Balaji and his father Chandrasekar in connection with the cheating case against them in Coimbatore. It dates back to 2010 in which the duo allegedly usurped Rs. 2.43 lakh from an industrialist in the city.
Coimbatore
Sukesh, who was abstaining from appearing before the Coimbatore Court for the cheating case, was produced here on June 8 and remanded in judicial custody. However he was taken to Delhi and has been thrice brought to Coimbatore. On Thursday morning, he was escorted from Delhi and after a break at the Coimbatore Central Prison, he was produced before the court.Â
Sukesh denied the charges against him and the case was adjourned to August 3. Sukesh was then escorted to Delhi through Ernakulam. After the court proceedings, Sukesh’s counsel claimed that Sukesh was a minor when the offence was committed and that the case should be tried before the Juvenile Justice Board. He added that the Coimbatore City Police who claim that Sukesh was more than 18 years old at that time don’t have any record to prove it.Â
The counsel said that during the next appearance they would move a discharge petition with adequate proof for the case to be tried before the Juvenile Justice Board. If denied here they plan to move the Madras High Court over the issue.
