The Kancheepuram district police, which had been hesitant to speed up the investigation in cases registered against notorious don Sridhar Dhanapal, have now put the cases against him on a priority basis and interrogated his son Santhosh on Sunday.

A police team headed by district SP Santhosh Hadimani interrogated Santhosh from morning to noon.  Sources said the police had sought the details regarding the whereabouts of Sridhar Dhanapal, who is now absconding. An Interpol red corner alert is already is sued against  Sridhar Dhanapal, after he went abroad to escape prosecution in Tamil Nadu.

Enforcement Directorate had registered a case of money laundering against Sridhar Dhanapal and has already started attaching his properties in different parts of Tamil Nadu.

Sridhar Dhanapal is an accused in several murders, kidnap and extortion cases. He had been having a free run in the district due to his ‘high-level’ connections. However, his spat with an AIADMK Kancheepuram councillor Jayakumar had became the reason for his downfall as Jayakumar registered a complaint with the DGP office in December 2015.

District police then registered a case against Sridhar Dhanapal and they arrested his seven associates. Sridhar, who was reportedly controlling his gang from Dubai, got annoyed after the arrest of his associates and called up the Kanceepuram Town police station inspector, threatening to bomb the station if the police continued their action against his gang. “The investigation in cases against him was put on the back burner.

But now the district police are pushing to get the person arrested. Interrogation of Santhosh was done in this regard,” a district police official said.
